Driving between New York City and Boston, we knew that we wanted to stop along the way and explore a new town. While it would have been amazing to go to Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard, that could be an entirely different trip. So we settled on Newport, Rhode Island which is slightly out of the way, but not enough that we didn’t mind the detour. Rhode Island marks the 23rd US State that I’ve visited!
Famous for its huge mansions and known as the perfect summer getaway, Newport now contains one of the highest number of surviving colonial buildings of any city in the United States. On our visit, however, the city was just waking up from its winter slumber. It was quiet and quaint. Everything you’d think of as a New England town.
We didn’t get a chance to drive around to the various mansions due to time, but we did take a quick wander through the downtown area. With so much more to see, a return visit to quaint Newport is a must for me.
Newport, Rhode Island was infinitely cute and I loved its New England charm. I wish we had more time to spend wandering its streets and to check out some of those mansions.
